September 2010 We are sad to report the death on 30 March 2010 of Everard Perrens, a former trustee of UK Friends of Nyakasura and Headmaster of Nyakasura from 1959-65. He will be much missed by his family and friends. Wilfrid Kantu, who succeeded David Ocan as Headmaster in 2007, has retired and a new Head has been appointed. The UK Friends sent a donation of £1,000 to the school in 2009 which we believe has been spent on renovating classrooms. September 2007 We had a successful reunion in Coventry on September 15th attended by about 40 people, including three Old Boys now living in the UK, and many ex-staff from the 1950s onwards. Terry Hudson, deputy head of Handsworth Grange School, Sheffield, was also a welcome guest. He and some colleagues visited Nyakasura in March as their school has a link with Nyakasura through a British Council scheme. They made an excellent video during their visit. Alan Baxendale read out extracts from Teddy Cooper’s memoirs of his time as Headmaster from 1948 and 1954, which were much enjoyed by all. Chris Robson showed a video of scenes at the school from the 1960s, which brought back fond memories for many of those present. Some pictures of the reunion are shown below. The Trustees met and agreed that the new Head needed time to settle in and formulate some strategic plans for how to get the school on to a firmer financial footing. We would then hope to be able to assist in implementing his vision.
